Step-by-step Brow Tinting Process

Brow Consultation

At Gameela Skin, any new beauty treatment starts with a consultation, so I can be sure I understand how you want to look and feel when you leave the salon. We’ll chat about what look you are hoping to achieve, what might best complement your skin tone, and your current brow routine.

Prep the Skin

Before applying any dye to your brows, I’ll start by prepping your skin. I’ll cleanse your skin thoroughly to remove any oils or makeup residue around your brows. Then, a protective barrier will be applied on the skin around your eyebrows, protecting the area from any staining that could occur when applying the dye to your brows. The dyes used in the tinting process are natural and safe, but the protective barrier is just another layer of protection for your delicate skin.

Color Match

Eyebrows frame the face, and I want to make sure the dye we’re using is right for your skin and face. Prior to application, I’ll do a color match on your brows to make sure the dye we’re using will match your brows and complement your skin tone.

Apply Tint

Once the color is chosen and your skin is protected, I’ll begin gently applying the tint, making sure the hair is fully coated in the dye. The dye will process for about 8 minutes, giving it time to penetrate the hair and achieve your color. Once it has fully processed, I will gently remove the dye using a damp cotton pad. I’ll check your brows for the color and make sure you love how they look. To complete the service, I’ll condition your brows to help keep your hair healthy and hydrated. The nourishing conditioner I use will work to keep your brow hair soft and looking its best.

A brow tint at Gameela Skin costs $30. Many of my clients choose to add a brow lamination to their brow tint so their brows can also be shaped and fluffed. A brow tint with a brow lamination costs $105. 

How Long Does Brow Tinting Last?

With proper aftercare and skincare products, brow tinting lasts about 4 weeks. The dye used is permanent, so it will not fade, but similar to the way a root begins to grow in after getting highlights, new un-tinted brow hairs will begin to grow in, and you’ll notice your brows lightening up. To help prolong the tint, avoid products that contain acids, such as face wipes or leave-on facial treatments, as these can accelerate color fading and shorten the lifespan of your tint.

Is Brow Tinting Safe?

When done correctly, brow tinting is completely safe. At Gameela Skin, I use a brow tint that is natural, safe, and specifically designed for the delicate skin surrounding your eyebrows. It’s always possible for allergic reactions to occur, and if you begin to notice a reaction on the skin surrounding your brows, you should contact your esthetician or your doctor.

Is Brow Tinting permanent?

The dye used in brow tinting is permanent, but the tinting is a semi-permanent treatment due to the fact that new brows will grow in and begin to lighten your tinted brows after about 4 weeks. Unlike microblading, which is a permanent and invasive brow solution, tinting is not permanent, instead giving you the option to change up your look or continue to tint your brows to your perfect coloring.

The biggest benefit of brow tinting is the finished look. Your brows will appear thicker, darker, and more luscious post-tint. You won’t have to worry about applying a brow pencil or taking it off at the end of the day; a brow tint doesn’t wipe off, and you’ll wake up with perfectly colored brows every morning. For those of us with lighter colored or blonde brows, the benefit of a tint will be most noticeable, but anyone can benefit from a little added color on the brows.

Eyebrow Tint Aftercare Recommendations

Eyebrow tinting helps keep your brows low-maintenance for a month post-tint, but there are a few things you’ll need to do in the first 24 hours after your tint to ensure best results. 

For the first 24 hours after your brow tint, avoid wetting the eyebrows or the area around the eyebrows, including skipping your daily cleanse, just this once. Avoid any chlorine or saltwater getting near your brows, and don’t allow your brows to be exposed to prolonged sun. Skipping the cleanse, water, and sun for the first 24 hours helps preserve the longevity of your tint. If you want your brow tint to stay in tip-top shape, you can use a mild cleanser throughout the lifetime of your tint and try to use oil-free products around your brow area.

I’m never going to tell you to skip the skincare, but be careful not to apply products directly to your brows, especially exfoliating acids, infused face wipes, or leave-on facial treatments, which can all break down the tint a little faster.
