The Best Anti-Aging Beauty Advice

While there are a number of products that work wonders for anti-aging {I’m looking at you, Bakuchiol}, at Gameela Skin, I also value beauty from the inside out.

This means using quality skincare products AND adding in daily habits that can have anti-aging benefits in other aspects of your life.

I’m sharing my best anti-aging beauty advice that will have you looking and feeling great, inside and out.

If You Smoke, Quit!

Aside from the negative consequences that smoking has on your lungs and overall health, smoking can also have negative effects on the skin. Seriously – Nothing ages you faster than smoking {including cigarettes and vapes}.

Smoking takes a significant toll on your appearance. The facial motion necessary for smoking a cigarette or vape increases wrinkles around the mouth. The chemicals in cigarettes have a vasoconstricting effect, meaning they cut off your blood vessels from circulation, causing premature aging.

Additionally, smoking cigarettes can leave you with discolored and stained teeth. All of these negative effects, premature aging, wrinkles, and lack of blood circulation, can be extremely expensive to fix later in life.

Anti-Aging Foods To Eat

It’s not just about what we put on our skin, but also about what we put inside our body. I’m a huge proponent of a nutritious diet! Some of your favorite foods may actually have excellent anti-aging benefits!

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are a natural compound that inhibits oxidation, protecting your body from free radicals. Free radicals can contribute to the onset of chronic diseases and contribute to the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of premature aging.

Antioxidants fight against these free radicals, neutralizing them to avoid the harmful effects on your health and appearance. Common vitamins that are antioxidants are vitamin E, vitamin C, and beta carotene. Foods like fruits, berries, vegetables, nuts, and seeds are all high in antioxidants.

One more food that is known to have higher antioxidants than even some berries is dark chocolate. Oh yeah – indulge!!

Fermented Foods

If you are familiar with gut health, you know the importance of fermented foods {like kimchi, yogurt, and sauerkraut} due to the healthy dose of probiotics they offer. In addition to the probiotics, fermented foods are also rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.

Inflammation of the skin can cause discoloration, breakouts, and irritation, but consuming a diet with fermented foods can provide you with anti-inflammatory benefits, leaving your skin feeling soothed and brighter with regular consumption.

Healthy Fats

Anti-aging starts from within and that means keeping your heart healthy. As you age, your blood vessels and heart begin to change. They need additional support, some of which is provided by healthy fats you can consume.

Healthy fats, or monounsaturated fatty acids, provide essential nutrients to your body and your heart, resulting in a decreased risk of clotting, reduced blood pressure, and improved blood vessel function. Some of my favorite healthy fats are nuts, olives, olive oil, avocado, and, again, dark chocolate. Of course, I always recommend consulting a doctor for all of your dietary needs.

Take Care of Your Hands

Many people think the first place that will show signs of aging is your face. In reality, it is usually your HANDS!

Decades of washing your hands and failing to apply SPF on this delicate skin can leave your hands looking a lot older than the rest of your body, showing discoloration spots, rough patches, wrinkles, and texture. Regular SPF application, along with moisturizing, can go a long way when it comes to taking care of your hands.

The Hand Drink Hand Cream with SPF 15 {one of my fav products} helps make this an easy process: this two-in-one hand cream and sunscreen provides the best of both worlds: it will leave your hands feeling soft and supple without any of the oily residue that some sunscreens leave behind. A win, win!

Get Plenty of Sleep

If we’re talking about a holistic approach to health, it will always come back to getting plenty of sleep. A full 8 hours is truly essential for giving your body, and your brain, the time it needs to rest and recharge for the day ahead.

When you sleep, your body goes through an essential restoration period, as does your skin. This restoration period is essential to the skin’s ability to retain moisture, protect, heal, and combat all the signs of aging. Every night, your skin’s blood flow increases and boosts collagen production, and wrinkle reduction and repairs damage from UV sun exposure.

Depriving your body of the time it needs to complete these natural processes, may leave you looking different, and aging prematurely. In addition to negative impacts on the skin, lack of sleep can also age the cells in your brain, leaving you with a brain that is aging faster than it should. Yikes!

Remove Makeup Before Bed

So, I touched on all the important things your skin is taking care of while you sleep: repairing damage, boosting collagen production and restoring moisture. While doing all of this, it’s important you make sure your skin is clean and has the opportunity to breathe.

Removing your makeup before bed IS essential for providing your skin with time to repair and renew itself overnight, giving you a vibrant appearance in the morning.

Exfoliate Your Skin

If you’ve booked a facial at Gameela Skin, you know how important exfoliation is to me. Exfoliating provides a wealth of benefits to the skin: Removing dead skin cells, increasing cell turnover, stimulating lymphatic drainage, and more.

Exfoliating will leave your skin youthful and glowing, while also providing an excellent base for your serums and moisturizers to be absorbed.

Exfoliating can be accomplished with a few different products and services. From chemical peels and dermaplaning, available at Gameela Skin, to exfoliators you can work with at home during your skincare routine.

Looking for an at-home option? I *always* reach for the Mandelic Perfecting Polish by Rhonda Allison. This product works hard to eliminate cellular buildup and smooth the texture on the skin.

For a solution that provides a deeper exfoliation, facials and dermaplaning can be excellent options. You can book a treatment with Gameela Skin online!
