Waxing & hair removal: What to expect
WHY SHOULD I GET WAXING?
Waxing is one of the best ways to temporarily remove unwanted hair and dead skin cells.
Waxing is much more effective than eyebrow threading, tweezing, or shaving with a razor as it removes the hair from the root - not just the surface of the skin. When waxing is performed regularly over a long period of time, the hair will grow back lighter and more scarcely.

HOW LONG DOES MY HAIR NEED TO BE FOR WAXING?
For body waxing to be most effective, hair needs to be about ¼ inch long. If the hair is any shorter than this, it will be more difficult to remove.
For leg or bikini waxing, we recommend allowing about 7-10 days of hair growth prior to your wax appointment.
HOW LONG DOES WAXING LAST?
For those newer to waxing, results should last anywhere between 3 to 6 weeks with minimal hair growth during this time period. At Gameela Skin, we recommend scheduling your wax appointments about every 4 weeks.
DOES WAXING CAUSE HAIR TO GROW BACK THICKER?
Waxing does NOT cause hair to grow back thicker. This is a myth! Similar to dermaplaning, waxing does not alter the type of hair grown in any given area. When performed regularly over one to two years, waxing will slow down hair growth all together.
IS WAXING SAFE FOR SENSITIVE SKIN?
Yes! When done properly and with high quality wax, waxing is perfectly safe and beneficial to those with sensitive skin. Waxing is one of the more gentle forms of hair removal. With that said, everyone’s skin will react differently. If you experience any sensitivities, breakouts or rashes following your wax appointment at Gameela Skin, please let your esthetician know.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY WAX APPOINTMENT?
Our esthetician will clean your skin before and after your wax treatment. However, for optimal results, we recommend exfoliating the area a few days prior to your appointment. In addition, it’s best to thoroughly clean the area that will be treated and avoid any heavy moisturizers prior to your waxing appointment.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF WAXING?
Skin redness is normal following the first 24 hours after your wax appointment. Other side effects may vary depending on your skin type. The most common side effects from waxing include skin irritation and ingrown hairs. Skin irritation typically happens to those who have particularly sensitive skin. Ingrown hairs after waxing are due to the hair lining being disrupted and the regrowth getting trapped under the skin. To prevent ingrown hairs, it’s best to avoid sunlight, excessive heat, and cosmetic products for about 24 to 48 hours following your appointment. If you experience any side effects following your wax, please feel free to contact our esthetician.

WHAT TYPE OF WAX DO YOU USE?
At Gameela Skin, we use Satin Smooth Wax for all of our treatments.
Depending on what type of wax treatment you’ll be getting done, we use either Satin Smooth was strips or Satin Smooth hard wax. The Satin Smooth hard wax is used primarily for more sensitive areas such as the nose, ears, etc. That being said, both wax options are safe for sensitive skin. Our esthetician will only ever use high quality wax that will be gentle and safe for your skin.
