2023 Skin & Beauty Trends

I’ve seen plenty of “new year, new skin” testing of products and trends going around, but the conclusion on what works can be a bit of a mixed bag. I’m giving you the TL/DR today on the skin and beauty trends you need to know for 2023 to help you keep up with the latest and greatest without the hours spent scrolling through all the buzz.

Skinimalism

If you’ve ever watched a 30-minute, 20-step skincare routine video and thought, “who has the time?” then 2023 is your year! This year, everyone is embracing minimalism, aka a quick yet effective skincare routine that won’t require an earlier alarm.

In the post-pandemic world, people are returning to the office, schedules are more packed, and there’s generally less time for lengthy skincare routines and skincare shopping. With less time to apply a slew of skincare products, you want to be sure that the products you are applying are effective. Multi-tasking products are making major moves. IE, products such as a lip and cheek tint or even skincare that doubles as makeup. This includes tinted moisturizers and glowy sunscreens that will let your natural skin shine through.

Skincare Tools That Deliver

At-home skincare tools are a fantastic way to keep the post-salon glow in between facials. These skin tools get more efficient every year, but in 2023 my top picks for skincare tools that you can easily use at home are:

Foreo Cleansing Device

This Foreo cleansing device provides the perfect cleansing method that is gentle enough that it won’t damage your skin with any harsh tugging movements, but the non-abrasive surface is strong enough to gently remove impurities from the pores and provide powerful anti-aging benefits. A deep cleansing system such as the Foreo will help your skin absorb other skin products while also working to tone and firm the skin. BONUS - it’s compact and completely portable!

Mask Brush Applicator

2023 is the year to leave behind transferring oils and germs from your hands onto your face. This is easily avoidable with a mask brush applicator. If you are going to take the time and effort to apply a mask that will bring your skin all the benefits you desire, it is worth taking the extra step to ensure no cross-contamination with your fingers.

A few benefits of my custom mask brush applicator by Gameela Skin:

  1. It has smooth bristles made from Taklon fibers and it will seamlessly blend your mask right onto your skin.

  2. The bristles don’t absorb any product {like your fingers do} so it ends up saving you product in the long run.

  3. It provides an even application, and thus more effective results.

  4. The brush is easy to clean after each use, leaving it ready to apply whenever needed.

Ice Roller

Ice rollers have been the rage for a while due to the many skincare benefits they provide. Cold rolling your face in the morning or at night once your face has been cleansed, can provide the following benefits:

  1. Noticeably smaller pores

  2. Reduced skin redness, puffiness, and irritation.

  3. Reduced acne-causing inflammation

  4. Lymphatic drainage to decrease the appearance of puffiness

Not to mention, cold rolling feels great and pairs great with a cup of coffee to wake you up in the morning. This mini ice roller gets bonus points because it is portable and can easily be used on the go.

Lash Serum

I talked about skinimalism and multi-purpose products earlier, and one of my favorite ways to be more minimal with my makeup AND skincare has been through applying a lash serum.

Lash serums can lengthen, thicken and strengthen your lashes, making mascara a little bit less important on the day-to-day. This Jane Iredale PureLash Lash Extender is Gameela Skin’s top choice for a lash serum and conditioner. While this product can be used at night as part of your skincare routine to lengthen and thicken your lashes, it can also be used as a base for your mascara. It makes mascara twice as effective when applied beneath the makeup. Talk about a win-win!

Lip Sunscreen

Everyone and their mother now knows the importance of sunscreen application {and if you don’t, head over to my blog post to get the deets}. However, the importance of sunscreen for your LIPS has been a newer topic for some of my clients.

Your lips are just as exposed to the sun as the rest of your face, and are definitely susceptible to burning. This can leave your lips dry, chapped, and flaky, when not properly protected. Gameela Skin’s top choice for lip sunscreen is the Jane Iredale LipDrink Lip Balm. While it provides the same protection as your typical SPF, it doubles as a lip balm, so it will leave your lips feeling hydrated with an extra bit of shine. Another pro: it’s formulated with a variety of oils and waxes that provide an antioxidant-rich protective shell for your lips.
