How To Improve Your Skin In 2023
‘Tis the season to start planning your 2023 glow-up! For me, and probably for many of you, the new year is a time for a reset: it’s a time to rededicate yourself to your goals, refresh your routines, and start reaching for the things you want. Whether you’ve fallen off your skincare routine a bit in the busy holiday season, or you’ve stuck to it but are looking for those final few additions that will really bring that new year glow, I’m breaking down my best tips to improve your skin in 2023.
Gua Sha Facial
If you deal with any of that oh-so-common morning puffiness, or you just want to feel extra snatched even before the contour, a gua sha is the perfect tool to add to your skincare routine this year. At-home gua sha facials are an ancient Chinese method, using a smooth-edged tool to stroke your skin while firmly pressing on it.
Skincare experts swear by gua sha facials - the benefits of using a gua sha include: reducing facial puffiness, providing lymphatic drainage to the face and neck, and even smoothing out wrinkles (always a win). The result, with consistent use, is a snatched jaw, carved-out cheeks, and reduced puffiness, even after that midnight glass of champagne on new years eve.
Cleanse Your Skin Daily
If you didn’t know, now you know: cleansing your skin daily is (always) an essential part of any skincare routine. It’s so important to cleanse your pores of any makeup or toxins before your head hits the, hopefully freshly washed, pillow. Products that you’ll be using on your face every day are important! That’s why Gameela skin is very serious about selecting quality products for your skin. I (hi, it’s me Nancy) can help evaluate your skin type and determine which products will work the best for your unique needs.
One of the essential steps when cleansing your skin is to ensure that all the makeup has been removed from your face. I love the double cleanse method of skincare - where an oil-based cleanser is used to remove makeup before washing with a cream cleanser.
My favorite cleanser, the Luxe Cleansing Balm by Rhonda Allison, will leave your skin fresh and makeup free, providing the perfect base to layer on the rest of your favorite skincare products. A skincare routine, starting with a quality cleanser and ending with a quality moisturizer will not only provide a solid foundation for your skin, but consistent use of these high-quality products will ensure the perfect base for makeup, or let you go au natural with confidence!
Add Vital Repair Gel To Your Skincare Routine
The missing ingredient to your skincare routine? The Vital Repair Gel by Rhonda Allison. My #1 recommendation for (most) of my clients! By increasing cell turnover, this product can help combat scarring from acne or other facial wounds. It can also be a great alternative to retinol for those whose skin is more sensitive to the powerful properties of retinol (or for those who may be pregnant or nursing).
Bonus: This gel-based product can double as a moisturizer, and provides a layer of protection for oily, acne prone or impure skin.
Apply Sunscreen Daily
I’ll stand on my soapbox about this one forever: you need to be wearing sunscreen all day, every day.
Aside from risking your skin’s health and your health by exposing yourself to harmful UV rays without any protection, if you’re not wearing sunscreen you are setting yourself up for imperfect skin in the future. Sun exposure causes premature aging, wrinkles, loss of elasticity, dark spots, and a laundry list of other issues.
If you’re taking the time to care for your skin in all other aspects, don’t let this one fall to the wayside. There are plenty of options to choose from when it comes to sunscreen: tinted moisturizers that will give you an extra bit of glow, sensitive skin options to add to your moisturizer, and plenty more (hint, hint - Rhonda Allison’s Daytime Defense SPF30). Add this to your morning skincare routine and thank me later!
