Looking to give your lashes a little boost? You’re probably considering a lash lift or lash extensions. Although these two beauty treatments both leave your eyelashes with extra volume, they differ greatly in treatment process, lash results, aftercare, etc.
At Gameela Skin we are team lash lift & do not offer lash extensions, but we’re here to explain each service in detail so that you can make an informed decision on which lash treatment is best for you!
What is a Lash Lift?
Okay but what is a lash lift? We’re glad you asked 😜 A lash lift is kind of like a perm, but for your lashes. It adds a natural and luscious curl from the base to the tip of your eyelashes using a silicone rod and perming solution.
During the lash treatment, a glue is applied to your lashes and your lashes are brushed up onto a fitted silicone rod (the size of the rod is dependent on the length of your lashes). Then, two different solutions are applied separately from each other for 5-8 minutes at a time (timing depends on the thickness of your lashes). The treatment leaves your natural lashes appearing longer and fuller! We love this treatment as it truly is helping your lashes reach their full potential and enhancing your natural beauty with no artificial add-ons.
What are Lash Extensions?
Eyelash extensions go beyond enhancing your natural lashes! Extensions work by adding artificial eyelashes (IE extensions) onto your natural lashes to physically make them longer. Each lash extension is attached to your natural eyelash from the base of the eyelid using a special eyelash glue. The extensions can vary in length, thickness, color, and shape, to completely alter the look of your lashes.
Difference between lash lift and lash extensions
The Lash Results: At Gameela Skin, we are all about enhancing your natural beauty and that’s exactly what a lash lift does. Lash lift results give your lashes such a natural boost while lash extensions tend to look more artificial. Lash extensions give you a very dramatic, glam look, 100% of the time.
Lash Longevity: One of our favorite benefits of a lash lift is how long the results will last! Lash lifts can last anywhere from 6-8 weeks (as long as you follow the aftercare instructions of keeping your lashes dry for 24hrs). The results of lash extensions typically last for about 3-4 weeks. With the difference in longevity, you should consider the cost of lash maintenance.
Lash Aftercare: The aftercare routine for lash lifts and lash extensions vary. Following a lash lift treatment, we suggest keeping your lashes dry for 24 hours, allowing the perm to fully set. After 24 hours, you can carry out your normal skincare routine. Following lash extensions, it's recommended to keep your lashes dry for that same 24 hour period after application to let the lash glue fully dry. In addition, lash extensions should be cleaned every day (if you wear eye makeup) or every 2-3 days if you don’t wear eye makeup. Lash extensions can be cleaned with an eyelash foam cleanser - this will help with the longevity of the extensions. It is recommended to avoid using any oil based products while you have eyelash extensions as oil and makeup products can cause build up and pressure on the lashes which tend to break the bond.
