Spring Into New Skin! Tips To Transition Your Skincare Routine From Winter to Spring
Depending on where it is you call home, some of us may have experienced a colder winter than others (coming at you live from sunny Scottsdale, AZ 😏). Regardless, we’re all coming off of snow, slush, rain, or colder temperatures. Winter is about to leave the building & it’s time to adjust more than just your wardrobe.
Prepping your skin for the change in weather is so important! Our skincare experts are sharing some tips to help transition your skin from winter to spring, to keep that gorgeous glow going all year round.
Start with a Clean Slate
Your skin might be looking a little dull after the cold and dry winter months. As temperatures start to rise around March and April, it’s the perfect time to do a little spring cleaning on your skin. We recommend scheduling either a dermaplane or a chemical peel with your local esthetician (or both - if you space them out just right). This will help to exfoliate and remove the dead and damaged skin from the last few months and help uncover a new layer of fresh skin cells.

Soothe Irritated Skin
Changes in the weather can throw our skin out of whack and leave us with a red or irritated complexion. To combat the irritation, we recommend pampering the skin with a more soothing at-home face mask (such as our Rhonda Allison Milk Mask). You can also try using a sheet mask - look for one that’s best suited for sensitive skin to avoid adding to the irritation.
Face masks that contain milk and vitamin E, provide healing support for the skin and do a great job combating dry and depleted skin.
Protect Your Skin With SPF
If you’ve been following Gameela Skin, you know we promote wearing SPF all year round! Whether it’s cold, hot, cloudy, snowing, or sunny - you should always be wearing SPF to protect your skin (and avoid signs of aging). So as you’re planning to spend more time outside enjoying the weather, we recommend adding SPF into your day to day skincare routine just as you would use your cleanser or moisturizer.
We recommend the Daytime Defense SPF by Rhonda Allison. We also carry an assortment of Powder-Me SPF sunscreen colors by Jane Iredale - the perfect lightweight sunscreen.
Change Up Your Moisturizer
In the winter months, we often complain about dry skin. To combat the dryness, we tend to lean more towards moisturizers that have heavier creams and oils to keep our skin hydrated. As we head into springtime, hydrating your skin is still important but your skin might have different needs.
We recommend trading out your heavier day time moisturizer for one that has a lighter consistency to allow your skin to breathe easier in the warmer weather.
This would also be a great opportunity to take advantage of our Powder-Me sunscreen by Jane Iredale! For recommendations on what products are right for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our esthetician.
Don’t Forget to Hydrate
Last but not least - drink plenty of water! As temperatures start to rise, it’s important to increase your H2O intake and keep your skin AND body hydrated. You can do this by keeping a bottle or glass of water with you at all times (it’s recommended to drink about a half an ounce to an ounce of water for each pound you weigh, every day). For those who have a hard time drinking enough water, try adding in some lemon or cucumber - a little taste can go a long way. We have a few clients who also prefer to drink sparkling water throughout the day to get their ounces in!
Luke warm baths with Epsom salts and bath oils are another option to stay hydrated as it can help get rid of dead skin cells. Don’t forget to apply moisturizer to your entire body after getting out of the bath. Applying your skin care products and lotion right after stepping out of the shower while your skin is still damp seals in the moisture that your skin has just absorbed.
